In June 2021, 135 non-accompanied children were identified in Paraguay as victims of labour exploitation and abuse. The Paraguayan Ministry of Children and Adolescents (MINNA) contacted the IOM office in Asunción, Paraguay to request for support in assisting these Paraguayan minors who were found in situations of malnutrition and showing signs of physical and mental trauma. The IOM office refered the case to the Global Assistance Fund, which funded the assistance of 63 girls, boys and adolescents by providing them with cash transfers and food vouchers that helped with their urgent needs. Of the beneficiaries, 33 were girls and 30 were boys, all under the age of 18 years old.

Post GAF’s assistance, the beneficiaries continued being accompanied by the Ministry of Children and Adolescents, through the Directorate of  International Affairs and the Comprehensive Care Program for Children and Adolescents Victims of Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation (PAIVTES). The Ministry shared the news on GAF’s support to this large group of migrants on social media here:
