Mo* left Kenya due to tribal conflicts. He migrated south and started working on fishing boats. Eventually, he arrived in South Africa as a carrier unloading boats at the dock. With time, he became undocumented and homeless. In 2012 he was arrested, detained and tortured. He was taken to hospital by prison guards due to the severity of his injuries, which left him seriously disabled for life. He was referred to the IOM Global Assistance Fund for assistance in returning home. GAF was able to provide for his ticket back to Kenya and assisted with urgent needs, such as food, clothes, and hygienic items.
